Darren Weir is quite confident that this first assault on the Ascot carnival will be a big success as he banks on Rageese for continuing with his astonishing dominance over Australian racing. This even made him break a magnificent 13-year-old Commonwealth training record with 3471/2 winners in the previous season. Weir’s confidence has been shared by Punter and also his backing Rageese from $8 to $6.50 with a TAB for the past 24 hours.
Rageese booked its trip to the Perth with a lightning win in the 1400m Chatham Stakes at Flemington last year. Rageese is owned by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum of Dubai and Weir feels that he is at his highest good health and position for a win. Weir said, “He’s got really good ability, It’s a pretty tough race, but hopefully he can run well. Barrier 11 isn’t ideal but I don’t think the barrier will beat him.”
Rageese: Will He Win?
Jockey Damian Lane will ride Rageese and he is firmly rooted in the competitive riding ranks of Melbourne after leaving the WA in 2011. Weir’s Warrnambool stable has been taken care of by Jarrod McLean and he has been the preparations of Rageese at Banjup all this while. McLean said, “There are no excuses from my end. He’s in really good order”. Also, Ben Pomatti, TAB’s spokesperson said that Rageese and the local hope Tradesman have already attracted strong supports. Pomatti said, “Tradesman was $9 into $7 but has eased back out to $8. He’s probably our worst result”.
So, who comes out to be the winner at the end in the Ascot carnival? Let’s wait and watch!
